OFF-ICE PROGRAM
Hockey is a highly skilled game played on the ice, elite players’ toolbox must also include competitive levels of strength, power, agility, flexibility, mobility, coordination, and overall athletic literacy. These elements determine how well a skilled player moves, how quickly they react, and how effectively they can execute their valuable skills under competitive pressure.
At OTE, off-ice training is more than just strength & conditioning, it is also about improving skill mastery. It is also education about how to build a complete hockey toolbox. OTE develops athletes who also learn how they can better maximize their future potential on ice.
BUILDING BETTER AND MORE INFORMED ATHLETES
Most young players understand the need for practice but easily overlook the role that athletic preparation and physical dominance can play in their long-term success. Without learning the habits and techniques of proper off-ice development, even the most skilled skaters and puck handlers may soon struggle against stronger, more explosive opponents who possess equivalent skills.
OTE’s off-ice program focuses on developing and learning about the key physical attributes that translate directly into superior hockey performance:

Strength, Power & Endurance
-
Players build functional strength for better stability, balance, and power.
-
Quickness and speed training improves first-step acceleration quickness and top-end speed.
-
Developing recovery knowledge helps players compete at full intensity for more shifts.

Agility & Coordination
-
Movement drills enhance foot speed, edge control, and rapid directional changes.
-
Hand-eye coordination work improves puck control and reaction time.
-
Goaltender-specific training and athletic work build quickness and movement efficiency.

Hockey-Specific Dryland Skills
-
Stickhandling, passing and shooting drills reinforce the correct mechanics needed for effective practice.
-
Position-specific training improves technique, timing, and execution.
-
Mobility and flexibility work help prevent avoidable injuries and improve overall movement.

A Smarter Approach to Off-Ice Training
Many young athletes rely on general conditioning programs or body building splits that aren’t designed with hockey-specific needs in mind. At OTE, our off-ice program is built around the demands of the game, ensuring that every exercise, drill, and workout contributes to actual performance on the ice. Further we teach the details of each exercise so that students can go to the gym on their own with proper knowledge and confidence.
Our goal is not just to get players in better condition, it is to develop more knowledgeable athletes who move efficiently, learn how to recover sooner, and have the strength and endurance to perform at their best in any situation.
With the OTE off-ice training, our students do not just feel stronger and more informed, they play better.

"I would say that he really enjoys getting to know a broad group of kids. He's got some great coaches and I find that they hold him accountable. He just really enjoys the atmosphere."
“I saw an incredible progression for my son's hockey performance from the start of academy to the end. The gains were incredible and gave my son's goalie ambitions legs to aim for higher and higher levels of hockey."

"Academy gets you to play against older players because all of high school can join and you play other people that are the same skill level as you. So it's nice."

"The biggest change in my game is the conditioning. When I'm in the game, I just focus on stopping the puck and not worrying about getting tired. I know it's prepared me because I get to see all different types of players skills and levels. It's a great program if you want to develop a ton and get better at your game and your craft."
